Avocado is a wonderful first food to feed your baby.  The "good fats" feed baby's brain and aid in physical development.  It is a good source of Vitamin A,E and K, B vitamins, potassium and fibre. Best of all it is simple to prepare.  Avocado requires no cooking. Peel, de-pit and enjoy!

Creamy Banana-Cado
feeding babies 4-6 months

Ingredients
Peel and de-pit a ripe avocado
Cut “meat” out and mash with a fork
Peel and mash 1 banana

Directions
Place in a blender or food processor and puree until desired texture is achieved. Avocados and Bananas do not need to be cooked.

Avocado is derived from the aztec word "ahuacatl" which translates to testicle as the aztecs considered the avocado a fertility fruit.  Affectionately known to North Americans as the Alligator Pear, reflecting its shape and the leather like appearance of its skin, the creamy texture of avocado is well received by babies.

An avocado has 60% more potassium than a banana.  Potassium helps to regulate blood pressure and an adequate intake helps to protect from circulatory related diseases.  They also contain oleic acid , which is the monounsaturated fat that is said to help lower "bad" cholesterol.  This nutrient dense fruit with its multitude of health benefits needless to say, can be enjoyed by all.
